It is speculation time (lets face it, what else is there to do at the moment).  I want to dive right in and talk about the MOST anticipated Yugioh! card printing for the TCG since the release of Firewall Dragon… and that card is, Dragun of Red-Eyes.  This card, much like the affore mentioned Firewall Dragon, changed the landscape of  the OCG format, single handedly influencing the Forbidden/Limited lists in an attempt to keep this beast in check.  Now Dragun of Red-Eyes will be making its debut in the TCG.  It will be released in the 2020 Tin Mega Packs coming out later this year.  Lets take a look at what this legendary creature does.

LGB1-JP001
Chou Madou Ryukishi Dragoon of Red-Eyes / Dragoon of Red-Eyes
Level 8 DARK Spellcaster Fusion Effect Monster
ATK 3000
DEF 2500
Fusion Materials: “Dark Magician” + “Red-Eyes B. Dragon” or 1 Dragon Effect Monster
(1) Cannot be targeted by, or destroyed by, card effects.
(2) Up to a number of times per turn equal to the Normal Monsters used as this card’s Fusion Material, during your Main Phase: You can destroy 1 monster your opponent controls, and if you do, inflict damage to your opponent equal to its original ATK.
(3) Once per turn, when a card or effect is activated (Quick Effect): You can discard 1 card; negate the activation, and if you do, destroy that card, and if you do that, this card gains 1000 ATK.

Lets start at the top.  First thing this is a Blue-Eyes White Dragon in terms of attack and defense.  A powerhouse to be sure.  Next it is immune to being targeted/destroyed by card effects.  WHAT!!!  No Raigeki!  No Compulsory Evacuation Device!  No Mirror Force!  This card has already paid for itself with its first effect and we still have two more to go.

Depending on whether or not you choose to use both Red-Eyes B. Dragon & Dark Magician or just use Dark Magician and an effect dragon really alters the devistating nature of this effect.  Up to a number of times per turn equal to the number of normal monsters used as fusion material, during your Main Phase: you can destroy one monster your opponent controls AND inflict damage to your opponent equal to that destroyed monsters original attack.  Since both Red-Eyes B. Dragon and Dark Magician are normal monsters you would get this effect twice a turn.  Talk about controlling a board state.  For nothing you can essentially wipe your opponent’s best creatures away every turn.

Last, BUT certainly not least, is the Quick Effect.  Once a turn when a card or effect if activated (QE): you can discard 1 card; negate the activation, and if you do, destroy that card, and if you do that, this card gains 1000 ATK.  Wait!!!  GAINS 1000 ATTACK!!!!

I can see WHY this particular card turned the OCG on its head and I anticipate the same thing happening in the TCG.  Very few decks will not be running this card in some way, shape or form.

The most likely way you will see Dragun of Red-Eyes hit the field (whether in the appropriate archetype deck or not) will be by utilizing Predaplant Verte Anaconda and Red-Eyes Fusion.  Now I know it may seem confusing but this will actually work.  Once you set up your board (regardless of what kind of deck you are playing) you save Anaconda’s effect for last to copy a fusion spell (i.e. – Red-Eyes Fusion).  Now Anaconda ONLY copies the fusion effect and not the restriction for casting Red-Eyes Fusion.  So as long as you make this the last cast you are good to go and should have a nice boss monster at your command.

Personally I cannot wait to see this card drop and get my hands on a copy or two to put into a few of my decks.  It will definitely boost the power level of even the most casual deck making it a threat.

Keep brewing and theory crafting!
